1909 Essex Regatta
ESSEX MOTOR BOAT CLUB
The marine motor racing season was practically brought to a close on Saturday, when the Essex Motor Boat Club held a regatta at Southend-on-Sea. The weather was fine, except during the last race. The handicapping proved to be particularly good. The results with the starts and handicap times were as follows:--
Handicap for cabin-cruisers, 12 sea miles
Mr. P. C. Middleton’s Eclipse (scratch), 1:59:50; Mr. O. B. Coll’s Xebec (52min. 48sec.), 2:01:09; Mr. D. Hepworth’s Satanella (4min. 16sec.), 2:01:25
Boats exceeding 10 knots, 10 sea miles
Mr. F. Gordon Pratt’s Tyreless (7min. 20sec.), 27:03; Mr. R. N. Fairbanks’s Camilla I (12min. 10sec.); 28:26; Mr. F. May’s Defender I (2min. 20sec.), 28:36.
Boats under 10 knots, 5 sea miles
