1909 Southern Yacht Club Regatta
New Orleans LA, August 28, 1909

Racing

New Orleans, LA.—The closing regatta for 1909 of the Southern yacht Club drew several thousand persons to the scene of the races. It also attracted fast boats from Houma, La., and Biloxi, Miss., which were not only present but competed for the prizes. The weather was ideal, and altogether from every standpont the races were a complete success. The speed-boat event was won by a home boat, Blue Wing II, owned by Jahncke & Farwell, which is equipped with a 125-hp. Smalley engine. This is a new boat, which only arrived in New Orleans the night before the races, and was a complete surprise to every one but her owners. There were eight starters in the speed-boat race. Blue Wing II started in seventh place, but quickly got to the front, and kept first position during the entire twenty miles. Her time was 49 minutes 51 seconds. Jack Rabbit was second, time, 1 hour 1 minute 50 seconds; Whiffen Puff; 4. Gee Whiz; 5. Blue Wing I. The cabin cruiser event was won by Mack in 58 minutes 51 seconds; 2, Dorinda, 1 hour 2 minutes 59 seconds; 3, Tresor; 4, Susie C.
