The American Speedboat Championship also known in later years as the William Randolph Hearst Trophy was traditionally scheduled for one 10 mile heat. Over the years only one Unlimited/Gold Cupper participated in each event. Perhaps for this reason or the fact that the Championship was scheduled between the first and second heat of the President's Cup which had been reduced to a one day regatta, only Gale II of the Unlimiteds present ran.
