Miss Budweiser Wins in Regatta
|
Washington, June 1 [1975] (UPI) Miss Budweiser, driven by Mickey Remund of Palm Desert, Calif., won one heat today and finished second and third in two others to capture the 44 President's Cup hydroplane regatta on the Potomac River.
Remund, who won the only heat in the six-boat race yesterday, held a commanding lead after today's first-heat victory and raced Miss Budweiser carefully in the last two heats.
It was Miss Budweiser's 13th attempt to win a President's Cup. The winner earned 1,325 to 1,269 for Weisfield's.
Weisfield's, a lightweight thunderboat registered out of Seattle, actually crossed the finish line first in all three heats today but the driver, Billy Schumacher, was disqualified and moved back from first to fourth in the opening heat for cutting in front of the field on the first turn. In the last heat Schumacher set a course record of 112.052 miles an hour and a lap record of 113.924 mph.
