Remund's Hydroplane Takes Cup in Indiana
|
Madison, Ind., July 3 [1977] (AP) Mickey Remund, driving the Rolls-Royce-powered Miss Budweiser, won both qualifying heats today and then beat Tom Sheehy's Natural Light for the Indiana Governor's Cup in the 30th annual Madison Regatta for unlimited hydroplanes.
Bill Muncey, the career leader on the American Power Boat Association's unlimited circuit and the heavy favorite to win for the fourth straight time this season, failed to gain the final. He finished fourth in his first heat, and then his hydroplane went dead in the water during his second.
The disappointing finish for the 48-year-old Muncey, a businessman from La Mesa, Calif., dropped him from first to third in the association's point standing, at 3,494. Remund, of Palm Desert, Calif., vaulted atop the standing with 4,094 points. Sheehy, from Miami, is second with 3,850.
