"This is the second Maverick, replacing the first which burned at Lake Mead. She is owned by W. T. Waggoner, is 301/3 feet long, 12½ feet wide and weighs 5,870 lbs. She was designed and built by Ted Jones, and launched two weeks prior to her first race-the 1959 Apple Cup. The Allison-powered boat set a qualifying speed record but sufferered hull damage in the the race and didn't finish. In the Detroit Memorial Race she placed third. She is gold with red and white trim and flies the burgee of the Lake Mead Yacht Club. In July, 1959, she won the Diamond Cup Race at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho."
