On the day before the race Miss Great Lakes II threw a prop in making a mile trial and caused considerable damage to her hull although she made a speed of 126 m.p.h. As a result she had to withdraw from the race. Two 7 Litres ran their race at the same time as the Unlimiteds with Mercury defeating her only, competitor Roughnecker 700 points to 000.
