Bill Muncey Wraps Up Hydroplane Championship

bullet Statistics

Seattle, Aug. 6 [1979] (UPI) — Bill Muncey, the veteran boat racer, clinched the 1979 unlimited hydroplane championship yesterday by winning his ninth consecutive Seattle Seafair Trophy race in his boat, Atlas Van Lines.

Steve Reynolds, driving the Nevada-owned Circus Circus, broke first across the starting line in the final heat and led wire to wire. But he was charged with a false start, by a fraction of a second, and was forced to complete an extra lap.

Muncey picked up 800 points to increase his season total to 8,500 and remain undefeated on the 1979 circuit with seven consecutive victories.
