Astoria Regatta To Be The Big Event

The city of Astoria, Oregon, holder of great regattas and famous throughout the United States, announces that the fifteenth annual regatta will be held the last three days of this month. The regattas have been featured and grown better each year. This year’s regatta promises to be the greatest of the events and the main attraction of its kind on the Pacific Coast.
There are a great many features planned this year by the regatta committee. There will be every conceivable water sport represented with a prize list amounting to $5,000 in cash prizes.
In the line of features will be the free-for-all Pacific Coast championship races for a prize of $1,000. This is one of the biggest prizes ever put up for a race on the Pacific Coast. The prize has drawn the best there is among the speed boats of the Pacific Coast. Among the fast boats to enter will be Wolff II, winner of the Fourth of July races at Portland. Her close contestant, Seattle Spirit, will lend her presence and probably put a different question as to the fastest speed boat on the Pacific Coast. Then the far-famed and hard traveler, Fighting Bob, of Sacramento, tickle the river. The Fighting Bob is a speeder and many state will show a pair of heels to every boat at the regatta. The Pacer II, of Portland, the little flyer which put up such a fight at Vancouver, will travel to Astoria and go in with the rest of the flyers. This combination of fast boats will be the gathering of the Pacific Coast speed class and form a feature that will appeal to every boat owner.
Arrangements have also been made for a marine parade to be held the evening of August 30. There will be a big fleet of boats in this parade and all decorated. This was one of the features of the regatta last year.
The land end of the regatta will be taken care of by Arnolds shows.
Astoria is rich in historic interest and its hospitality is boundless. Those attending the regatta are promised one of the most pleasant and interesting times of their lives.
The regatta will be in charge of Admiral W W Robinson, a well known Portland business man, and an efficient number of aids. Admiral Robinson is past exalted ruler of the Elks and who will aid in making the regatta a success.
